How to Prepare for IELTS in 3 Months: A Week-by-Week Study Plan
6/23/2026

Three months is enough time to raise your IELTS score by one full band if you study consistently. Here is a week-by-week framework.
Months 1 (Weeks 1–4): Diagnose and build foundations
- Week 1: Take a full practice test. Score it. Identify your weakest skill.
- Week 2: Vocabulary — learn 10 academic words per day using spaced repetition.
- Week 3: Grammar — review common error types: articles, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement.
- Week 4: Reading — practise skimming and scanning on one passage per day.
Month 2 (Weeks 5–8): Skill drills
- Week 5–6: Writing — write one Task 2 essay per day and get feedback. Use IELTSAlert for instant band estimates.
- Week 7: Listening — complete one full Listening test under timed conditions every other day.
- Week 8: Speaking — record 3 Part 2 answers per day and listen back.
Month 3 (Weeks 9–12): Exam simulation
- Week 9–10: Take 2 full practice tests per week under exam conditions.
- Week 11: Review every wrong answer. Build a personal error log.
- Week 12: Light review only. Sleep 8 hours the night before the exam.
Time commitment
45–60 minutes per day is more effective than 4-hour weekend sessions. Consistency compounds.
