Frequently asked questions

Answers about free practice, how scores are estimated, AI feedback and your Gemini key.

Is IELTSAlert free?

Yes. All practice tests, auto-marking and band estimates are free. There is no paid plan at the moment.

Is this the official IELTS test?

No. IELTSAlert is an independent practice site and is not affiliated with the British Council, IDP or Cambridge. Our scores are estimates to guide your practice, not official results.

How are Listening and Reading marked?

Your answers are checked automatically. The number correct is then converted to a band using the official IELTS band conversion tables.

How accurate are the Writing and Speaking scores?

They are estimates based on the IELTS marking criteria. Use them to see trends and weak areas. A real examiner may score you differently.

What is a Gemini key, and why would I add one?

A Gemini API key is free from Google AI Studio (https://aistudio.google.com/app/apikey). If you add your own key in Settings, AI feedback runs on your free Google quota, so you are not limited by our daily allowance. You can remove it at any time.

Do I need an account?

You can try practice without signing up. Create a free account to save your scores and track progress.

Do you help with university applications or visas?

No. IELTSAlert is not a consultancy. Our country, university and scholarship pages are general information. Always check the official websites.
